Cheshire Walking Football Cup Festival 2017
The Cheshire Walking Football Cup Festival 2017 was held at the Cheshire FA Football Centre, Moss Lane, Northwich on Saturday 15th July 2017. The day opened with uncertain weather, which fortunately, did not persist.
The competing teams were as follows: Barnton FC, Helsby Old Boys, Leyland Limpers, Widnes, Wigan Walkers and Winsford Wanderers. A surprise welcome addition was the arrival of two teams from Everton in the Community bringing our total to 8 teams.
Two teams who had wished to attend were unable to field teams due to lack of numbers for a weekend competition. Before the start of the Cheshire Walking Football Cup Festival 2017 the teams were made aware of the sudden death of one of our respected referees, Hefin Roberts, and one minutes silence, as a sign of respect, was observed in his memory.
Unfortunately our Chairman, David Powell, was unable to attend after having very recent surgery and we wish him a speedy recovery. All the games were played in the spirit of walking football with no cards, blue or red, issued by the referees, who managed the matches with their usual skill and patience.
The day ended with the Plate competition between Widnes and Wigan Walkers and after a hard fought battle, gentlemanly of course, Wigan Walkers were the victors with a 2 -1 win. Wigan Walkers are retaining their winning streak.
The Cup tournament was played by new comers to the competition, Barnton FC and Winsford Wanderers, and the eventual outcome was that Winsford Wanderers became the victors with a winning score of 3 – 0.
The committee would like to thank all participating teams who took part in this Cheshire Walking Football Cup Festival 2017 for their attendance and enthusiasm and making, what turned out to be, an enjoyable day. We would like to welcome all teams to compete in our forthcoming Autumn League, commencing in September, details of which can be obtained by emailing George Brady on this link and are also on this websites Home page.
