CWF League April 2017 – Third Session Of The Spring Season
The CWF League April 2017 session continued with 2 divisions of 5 teams. A cloudy but dry day saw the scoring reduced to 19 goals from March’s high of 31. The two divisions produced eight 0-0 draws in the 20 fixtures. Only 7 goals were scored in the Premier Division and 12 in the Championship.
In the Premier Division, leaders Northgate Strollers dropped 7 points in their fixtures, while nearest rivals Wigan Walkers narrowed the gap at the top to 4 points with three 0-0 draws and a 1-0 win. Nantwich Barony are close behind Wigan on 14 points with both Widnes and Helsby Old Boys on 12 points, Helsby bottom on goal difference.
It looks like Northgate Strollers and Wigan Walkers will be fighting it out in May to see who takes the title. With the Strollers on two titles and Wigan on one, it will be interesting to see if Northgate can add to it or Wigan can make it two each.
In the Championship Division, Vintage Celtic maintained their 3 point lead over Crewe Alexandra. Both teams won 2 and drew 2. Neston Nomads, the biggest scorers on the day with a 3-0 victory over 1874 Northwich, are mid table on 14 points. Northgate Rovers are just behind on 13 points with the Northwich team bottom on 10 points.
There is all to play for in the May session of the Cheshire Walking Football Spring League with little to separate the top two teams in both divisions. It was good to see the referees stamping down on running and over physical contact during the CWF League April 2017 session of the Spring league.
Also it was nice to have our league secretary George Brady back on duty again, overseeing the day’s events, after his recent illness. Having watched you try to kick a ball yesterday George, I have to say that you make a better secretary than a striker!
