CWF League December 2016 – Final Session Of The Autumn Season
The CWF League December 2016 final session of the Autumn League saw the same 8 teams entered in 2 divisions of 4 teams.
In the 12 games played, 20 goals were scored, with 7 against Vintage Celtic who were bottom placed in the Premier Division. Unusually there was only one nil nil draw, while most games were low scoring affairs with 6 matches finishing 1-0. The highest scores on the day were two 3-0 wins for Northgate Strollers against Vintage Celtic and Nantwich Barony against 1874 Northwich.
There was a surprise in the Premier Division with two time champions Northgate Strollers denied a hat trick of titles by new boys Wigan Walkers. The Wigan side beat the Strollers 1-0 to pip them to the title by 1 point. Congratulations to new champions Wigan Walkers. Widnes kept their position in the Premier Division with a win and 2 losses, although they were unlucky not to draw in both of those games. After 2 league seasons of finishing runners up, a poor Vintage Celtic team find themselves relegated.
In the Championship Division Nantwich Barony came out winners of the league with a 5 point gap over nearest rivals Neston Walking Football. Barony had 2 draws and a win to make them worthy champions, congratulations to them. New boys Neston and also Northgate Rovers had similar results in this final session. Only wooden spooners 1874 Northwich failed failed to gain a point and finished bottom of the table.
Hopefully all 8 teams will enter the Spring League and maybe we can add a few more teams before the first session in February.
As always a big thanks go to the Cheshire Walking Football League Secretary, George Brady for his organisation skills on the day. Also thanks to the referees who officiated and helped to make the day a great success and also to Adam Doyle of the Cheshire FA.
